If your dog or cat is suffering from ear mites and an ear mite infection in the cat ear canal, you’re definitely not going to want to leave them alone with the problem. Instead, you want to make sure that they’re taken care of and that your fur babies are getting rid of those mites through ear infection as quickly as possible by taking care of their ear flaps, fleas, ear mite treatment and more.
It may take a little bit of work on your part, but if you’re willing to put some effort in you’ll be able to create your own home remedy for those ear mites and that’s going to make your pets feel a lot better.
Did you know you can put hand sanitizer on mites? Most people don’t, but all you need to do is put a little in your hand and apply it inside the ear.
Rub the base of the ear to help the hand sanitizer fully sink in and start to dry. It will do this on its own so you don’t have to worry about drying it yourself. You can also repeat this up to twice per day and until you notice any results.
Garlic and Olive Oil
There are antibacterial properties in garlic and when you combine them with some moisture in the olive oil you end up with something that really helps with scabs in the ears as well as getting rid of the mites themselves.
All you need are 5 cloves of garlic, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, and an eyedropper. You just peel and chop up the cloves and mix them with some warm olive oil. It takes about 12 hours for the ingredients to come together fully and then apply five drops into each ear.
Massage the base of the ear to let it get down enough to heal. It takes about 21 days to get full results from this method and it can be done once per day.
For this one, you fill an eyedropper with mineral oil and pour about half the dropper into each ear. Make sure to help massage it all the way down and then use a cotton ball or a swab to help it get all the way into the ear.
You can do this twice a week for at least one month and you’ll start seeing some results in the mites and the scabbing.
This is another simple option when it comes to cleaning your cat’s ears. Just put a little bit of Vaseline on the end of a cotton swab and apply it to the ear.
You can leave the Vaseline directly in the ear and don’t need to worry about wiping it away or removing it as it will absorb fully on its own. You can do this once per day until the mites are entirely gone.
It only takes 1 tablespoon of honey and a warm, wet cloth to get the best effect out of honey. You can apply a little to the ear directly with a cotton swab and make sure to get down into the ear canal.
Let it sit up to 15 minutes and wipe out the ear with the wet cloth. You can do this up to 2 times per day and repeat until you notice that the ear mites are entirely gone and the wounds have closed up.
All you need is a single leaf of fresh Aloe Vera or about ½ tablespoon of the bottled stuff. You apply the aloe directly to the ear and let it soak deep inside by massaging outside of the ear.
This you can do every day as well but you’re going to start seeing results more quickly, likely within just three days or so.
With this, you just need a little hydrogen peroxide on a cotton ball. Wipe the cotton ball on the inside of the ear but make sure you’re gentle. You can do this two times per day and repeat it until the ear mites are gone.
Mix a single tablespoon of white vinegar with the same amount of warm (not hot) water. Soak a cotton ball in the mixture and then wipe the inside of the ear.
It will help to start breaking down the scabs and getting rid of the mites themselves. You can repeat this for at least 7 days or until the mites are gone.
Food-Grade Diatomaceous Earth
You can add just a small pinch of the diatomaceous earth to some warm water and put it into an eyedropper.
Use the eyedropper to get a few drops down into the ears and then repeat the process for at least one month. Just make sure you’re only doing it once per day.
Almond Oil and Vitamin E
This one is a bit more obscure but it’s definitely something to consider. Use about ½ ounce of almond oil and mix it together with 400 IUs of Vitamin E. You’ll want to mix it well and then pull up an eyedropper full.
Use about half of the dropper in each ear and make sure you massage the bottom of the ear to get it all the way down. You can get out any wax and debris with a cloth but make sure you don’t scrape anything out of the ear as this can hurt your cat. You do want to repeat this every other day for a week or more in order to see results.
Once you know what you’re doing you’ll definitely be able to help your cats feel better and get rid of ear mites without having to worry about going to the vet or taking other types of medication. Your cats will start feeling a whole lot better in no time and you’re definitely going to appreciate the fact that you don’t have to spend a whole lot of money on the process of getting your cat treated and cared for. So spend a little bit of time trying out this method for yourself and see how great it works.
